Compact chalet

Total renovation and energy improvement of a chalet

Total renovation of a chalet from 1968 on the Pre-Alps Vaudois .

Because of the site being located in a protected area, no modifications could be made to the exterior, so the project started with a rather restrictive set of specifications: on one hand, the owners' desire to optimise space and surfaces, and on the other, the need to integrate the insulation, the technical installations as well as the new roof, into the existing volume.

Once the new layout of the house had been determined, the study of the details had to start quickly, in order to be able to check and optimise the construction and try to gain every available centimetre. A great deal of work was done with the general contractor who managed the site, Nelbois Sàrl, who was able to combine their great experience in the renovation of traditional chalets with the modern details required.

The choice of materials was very spontaneous. The wood of the chalet had to be integrated in a new modern and luminous complex: simple lines to give the necessary importance to the new living spaces.

The result is a chalet completely transformed in terms of energy and quality of life.
